Hi Karen,
I think it depends on the time of year. Certainly avoid Kuta as it’s much like Waikiki, very crowded. Ubud can’t be missed and there are plenty of opportunities to get lost in the nearby rice fields. I enjoyed visiting the Gili Islands. They feel very remote and like another world. The longer you stay in Bali, the more you can explore. Especially the north side of the island. It isn’t on the tourist track.
