Traveling Internationally with iPhone 6s
The iPhone 6s is jam packed with new features that will make travel easier and better than before. Since its debut, the iPhone has revolutionized the way people experience travel. The iPhone 6s has new features and has improved on others to continue making it the best tool for travel. Here is how to make the most of the new features of iPhone 6 & 6s and prep your phone for travel.
Key Features for Travel
Better Photos
It may be time to think about leaving your camera at home. By comparison, current digital point and shoot cameras are heavier and bulkier than the new iPhone 6s. The new 12 megapixel camera takes excellent photos, records 4k video and new live photos. Even the front facing camera has been upgraded. That means better selfies!
Unlocked Contract Free
If purchased directly from Apple, at full price or as part of their Apple Upgrade program, you can have the power of versatility in your hand. Having an unlocked phone gives travelers the option of purchasing a local sim card, usually at low costs, when traveling abroad. Local sim cards are usually obsolete when you cross borders but they provide travelers with a local phone number and data is usually included in the cost
Wi-Fi Calling
Yes, Wi-Fi calling is nothing new as Skype, WhatsApp and even Facebook allow travelers to make calls on Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi calling is especially useful when you’re in an area with weak carrier coverage. For example, when you’re traveling to the residential countryside, or you’re in a building with spotty reception. You can turn this feature on directly in your iPhone settings and begin to make calls directly from your phone or address book. T-Mobile lets you make and receive Wi-Fi calls for free between 120 countries. Sprint customers won’t be charged for calls made to, from, or between the US, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, but they will be charged “international calling plan rates” for other countries. Of the four major US carriers, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T provide built-in Wi-Fi calling. Though no official timeline has been set, Verizon has confirmed plans to offer the service.
Wallet & Apple Pay
You can safely leave your credit card hidden in your day bag, money belt or deposited in the hotel safe. Although Wallet and Apple Pay are no longer new to iPhone, they are great features to take advantage of for travelers. One feature to note is the text message confirmation you will receive anytime your registered credit is used. This gives travelers piece of mind when tracking every travel transaction. Now, outside the United States and the United Kingdom, Apple Pay can be used with American and British payment cards at compatible NFC-based payment terminals. After you set up Apple Pay, just wave your iPhone at a retailer’s terminal, at a tube station or on the bus, then verify your identity via Touch ID sensor (or sometimes PIN). The payment is made automatically.
